What Is Salvation?
Understanding God’s Rescue Plan for the Soul
Key Verse:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV)
What Does “Salvation” Mean?
Salvation is the deliverance from the power and penalty of sin through Jesus Christ. It is God's plan to restore us into right relationship with Him—not through our works, but through faith in His Son. At its core, salvation is a divine rescue. It means being saved from judgment and eternal separation from God and being brought into the safety of His grace, mercy, and eternal life.
Why Do We Need Salvation?
Scripture tells us that:
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
Every person is born into sin, and sin separates us from God. No amount of good behavior, church attendance, or moral living can erase that separation. We need salvation because we need a Savior. God, in His love, sent Jesus Christ to bridge that gap through His death and resurrection.
How Are We Saved?
Salvation is not something we earn. It is a gift. The Bible is clear:
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (NKJV)
To be saved:
We must acknowledge our need for forgiveness.
We must believe that Jesus died and rose again for us.
We must confess Him as Lord and surrender our lives to Him.
This faith response to the gospel is what brings about spiritual rebirth and reconciliation with God.
What Happens When You Are Saved?
When a person receives salvation:
They are forgiven of all sin—past, present, and future.
They receive the Holy Spirit, who empowers and guides them.
They become a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
They begin a journey of spiritual growth and discipleship.
They are granted the assurance of eternal life.
Salvation isn’t just about a future in heaven—it’s about transformation here and now.
